This former architecture student from Romania has built both a cosmetics empire and a reputation as the definitive eyebrow expert amongst Hollywood’s elite.

Anastasia inherited her sense of style from her parents who were both tailors. Devastated by the death of her father at the age of 12 she took on the responsibility of helping her mother keep her tailor shop afloat.

After completing her studies in architecture, Anastasia took a sabbatical to spend time with her husband and newborn daughter. Fueled by a desire to leave the oppressive conditions of the communist regime, she convinced her husband to defect to the United States. Two and a half years later, she and her daughter were finally able to join him. Knowing her career plans as an architect were dashed, she enrolled in cosmetology school. With a translator in tow, Anastasia found a job as an esthetician doing facials and body waxing at a small salon on Melrose Place.

Realizing how the shape of the eyebrow could drastically change the appearance of one’s face, Anastasia spent endless hours in the library studying the architecture of the face – from Da vinci’s Golden Mean to bone structure variance amongst different races and cultures.

Willing to risk her entire life savings, she was now ready to strike out on her own. But she found little support from both her friends and the economy as the Gulf War was in full swing. However, it was her mother’s unrelenting support via long distance phone calls that gave Anastasia the inspiration she needed to follow her heart. She would soon prove the naysayer’s wrong. Her clientele grew quickly and she had to find even larger quarters and hire the requisite staff.

Personally she now faced the challenge of being a single mother, but professionally her star was rising. Demand started to outstrip supply and women were lined up outside her door. This demand turned into fourteen-hour workdays six days a week.

At times, on the seventh day she would make special house calls to some of her star clientele who always inevitably remarked how polished they looked and how rested they felt after her visit. Anastasia started to refer to it as “an instant facelift,” and so did her clients.

What began as a way to make a living has resulted in an ever growing beauty empire including salons across North America and a cosmetic line and has elevated Anastasia to be the leading authority on brows and beauty in the industry today.

Her success has earned her celebrity status and she has become a favorite among Hollywood’s A-List, including Jennifer Lopez, Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon.
